About Us

Erin Hurley, OTR/L is the Director and Founder of Unicorn Therapeutic Riding.  She is a competitive rider and trained with Phillip Dutton, an Olympian in the discipline of Eventing.  Erin is currently competing with “Merlot” a 5 yr. old homebred whom she foaled and is training.  She competed through high school and college and owned horses from the age of 9. This provided her with a strong background in equine disciplines.

Erin is a graduate of the University of Colorado and Thomas Jefferson University Occupational Therapy School in Philadelphia.

Unicorn was formed in 1988 on a small farm in Burlington County, NJ. Unicorn’s services to children and adults formed a backbone of therapeutic services to individuals with disabilities.  ARC of Burlington County, YALE School, Burlington Day Training, Githens Center, BCSS participated along with over 85 individual students per week. Unicorn was accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, Erin became a President of the HRH of NJ program and taught classes in Equestrian Therapy for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Occupational Therapy students from Thomas Jefferson University and University of the Sciences completed Level 1 and Level 2 Fieldwork for OT.

In May of 2016 The Hurleys purchased a new farm in Hopewell Township Nj where a brand new barn and indoor facility was constructed. Unicorn opened its doors in the Fall of 2016 providing services to  children and adults in Mercer and Hunterdon counties. As a non-profit organization, Unicorn operates with a volunteer staff. As members of the American Hippotherapy Association, PATH and HRH of NJ, Unicorn participates in continuing education to advance the care and treatment of our clients with disabilities.
